| Getting ready
for 4.0: The upcoming MAS 90 and MAS 200 Version
4.0 (anticipated for a November release) provides important technological
enhancements that increase the power and flexibility of
MAS, like increased customization capabilities and greater
ease of integration with add-on products, plus the all-important expansion of the General Ledger account
code. Email
info@mcginc.com for a summary of the enhancements in
4.0.
Remember: If your system has third-party add-ons,
programming modifications, or customized reports, those
will probably need to be upgraded to 4.0 with your MAS 90
or MAS 200 system. As always, MCG can help you evaluate
and prepare for your upgrade.
To prepare for 4.0:
1) Verify that your
hardware and operating systems can accommodate the new
features of 4.0. Windows 98 will not be supported by 4.0,
but the new Windows Server 2003 will be. Processor and memory
requirements will also be updated. Call MCG to verify your
system meets requirements, or refer to the Version 4.0
Supported Platform matrices on BOSS.
2) Be aware that
the product registration process will be streamlined in
Version 4.0, replacing the individual serial numbers for
each module with a single system-wide serial number and
product key. A FAQ addressing 4.0 registration changes is
available on BOSS, or contact us for details. |

When Business Alerts is first
installed, a company code is entered as part of the installation
process. This company code is inserted in the MAS_ALERTS Data Source (DSN)
that is created during the installation. Because the company code must
be held in the DSN, a problem arises when the user wishes to use
alerts for multiple companies.
So do I have to manually change the company code in the DSN every
time I want to run an alert for another company? No. Instead, you can
create a separate DSN for each company that Business Alerts needs
access to. Here's how:
1) Open the ODBC Data Source Administrator. It can be located in
either Start/Settings/Control Panel, or Start/Settings/Control
Panel/Administrative Tools, depending on your operating system.
2) Select the System DSN tab.
3) Select the MAS_ALERTS DSN and click on Configure. Make note of the
information entered in the Database Directory and the Definition File
fields. (Yes, there should be two backslashes in the Definition File
field.)
4) Close the MAS_ALERTS DSN.
5) Click Add, then select MAS 90
32-Bit ODBC Driver, and click Finish.
6) In the new DSN, enter the
following:
Data Source Name: MAS_ALERTS_XXX
(XXX represents the company code)
Description: your description for the DSN
Database Directory: the path to the MAS90 folder as noted previously
Definition File: the other path noted previously
Company code: the company code for which you are setting up this DSN
7) Click OK.
8) After creating the desired DSNs,
you can now create or modify your alerts to use the new DSN names.

Best Software has been named one of the
Hottest Companies for 2003 by "Start" magazine. The
publication’s July 2003 awards issue, which profiles the top
technology providers in manufacturing, honors software and
hardware vendors that have developed innovative applications or
products for the manufacturing industry.
Start's editorial team judged nearly 100 entries, and designated
30 manufacturing solution providers as "Hot." According to the
magazine, “In a space also populated by some of the big
enterprise giants, Best Software continues to hold its own with
more than a dozen products designed to help companies manage
growth as they move up the industry ladder.” |

| Did you
know...printing costs corporations an amount equal to 1%-3% of
their revenue? The average $1 million corporation generates
88,000 sheets of paper each year, AND paper use is growing 6%-8%
per year. How much paper do
you generate every time you print MAS 90 or MAS 200 journals and
registers? Do you want to keep journals and registers for
your records, but don't want to devote the space to filing all
that paper? Would you like to spend less time filing,
maintaining, and searching through paper copies of journals and
registers?
Macabe Associates' Paperless Office
suite of enhancements allows you to save MAS-printed documents
in a PDF format, which you can save and print as needed. PDF
documents are also searchable, and can be emailed! The
Paperless Office suite includes Paperless AR Statements,
Paperless Journals and Registers, and Paperless Electronic Forms
Delivery.
