What Employers Learn From Background Checks, from SmartPros Accounting News & Insights
A current hiring trend is the increase in job applicant background checks. According to a screening index by ADP Employer Services, the company conducted 12 percent more background checks in 2005 for its clients than in the prior year. Of these 4.86 million background checks:
- 49 percent revealed a difference in information between what the applicant provided and what the source reported (of which 6 percent resulted in negative remarks in regards to the applicant).
- 24 percent had one or more driving violations or convictions.
- 46 percent of the completed credit report checks showed a judgment, lien or bankruptcy, or had been reported to a collection agency.
The most common screens are Social Security validation, address verification and felony criminal record checks, said ADP.
